On or off campus? It’s a good question.

On or off campus? It’s a good question.

Are you thinking about where to live while you study at UQ? After all, you don’t just want a place to stay, you want a place to live.

For many students the biggest decision is whether to live in on-campus or off-campus student accommodation.

Living on-campus does have the advantage of convenience – being so close to class means you never have far to go. But given you probably don’t spend all day, every day going to classes, what happens when the lights go out at your university? In some cases your options can be quite limited.

That’s why more and more students are choosing to live in off-campus student accommodation – it offers all of the supportive benefits of on-campus living along with flexibility, convenience and some unique advantages such as:

Increased opportunities to find part-time work

With more businesses and potentially less competition from other students also looking for work, it is likely that you will have more chance of finding an interesting part-time job (and closer to home).

The chance to build a more diverse social network

Given you will be living with students from other universities and colleges and from all over the world, it is a great way to make friends outside of your day-to-day university social circle. It can also provide a great academic network with people offering unique and creative perspectives to problem solving and study techniques.

Greater access to amenities and transport

By living in the thick of it you can have everything you need close by like shopping, cinemas, restaurants, cafés, bars, health and fitness, cultural activities and public transport.

A change of scenery each day

They say ‘variety is the spice of life’ so it’s good to get some separation between your study and living environments. Leaving campus each day gives you a chance to clear your head and re-focus.

Iglu Student Accommodation is one option to consider if you are looking for purpose-built student accommodation. Offering a range of fully-furnished multi-bedroom share apartments and individual studio or one bedroom apartments, across two central locations Iglu Brisbane City and Iglu Kelvin Grove finding a room to suit should be easy.

But your room is just the beginning. When you live at Iglu it’s the little things that make all the difference like fabulous communal areas, a safe and secure environment and a jam-packed events programme. It’s not just a place to stay, it’s a place to live.

As with any big decision, you really should do your research to ensure that you choose the right accommodation for you, in the best location to suit your needs. Visiting the UQ accommodation page, attending our open days and chatting to your fellow students are all great ways to learn more about the options available to you.

And, if you want to learn more about the advantages of living off-campus, why not pop in and check it for yourself – it might just be the option for you.
