UQU Bursaries

Are you experiencing financial troubles?

UQU bursary applications are now open for UQ students who need help with their finances. Brought to you by UQU’s Student Help On Campus (SHOC), UQU Abilities Collective and UQU Association of Postgraduate Students the bursaries range from $300 - $600 and can be put toward any equipment you require (ie books, laptops), courses and living expenses. 

What is a bursary?

A bursary is a sum of money awarded to a student who needs a helping hand with their finances or studies. Awarded based on the application criteria a bursary isn’t a loan and won’t need to be paid back.


How to apply

All you need to do is complete the online form by 4pm, Friday, 27th October, making sure to provide any documents you feel support your case. 

 

SHOC Welfare Bursaries - $500 each

SHOC welfare bursaries are designed to assist undergraduate and postgraduate UQ students experiencing financial hardship.

Applicants must be:

  • A currently enrolled University of Queensland undergraduate or postgraduate student (Full-time or Part-time)

All applicants:

  • Must submit all supporting documents with their initial application (if required)
  • May not be allowed to amend their application after submission of initial application
  • May be requested to submit additional data (at the discretion of the selection panel)

Please note: Applicants who received a 2017 Round 1 SHOC Welfare bursary will not be eligible to apply for a 2017 Round 2 bursary. 

Abilities Bursaries - $500 each

Abilities bursaries are designed to assist undergraduate and postgraduate students who identify as having a (dis)ability, chronic illness or mental health condition and who would benefit from a bursary in order to purchase resources, equipment, or other item(s) to enhance their lives/studies.

Applicants must be:

  • A currently enrolled University of Queensland undergraduate or postgraduate student (Full-time or Part-time)
    AND
  • Identify as having a (dis)ability, chronic illness or mental health condition

All applicants:

  • Must submit all supporting documents with their initial application (only if required)
  • May not be allowed to amend their application after submission of initial application
  • May be requested to submit additional data (at the discretion of the selection panel)


UQU Association of Postgraduate Students - $300 & $600

Two types of UQU APS bursaries will be awarded in 2017:

  • Individual bursaries, valued at $300 each
  • Group bursaries, valued at $600 each

Eligible applicants for both bursaries must be either:

  • A currently registered postgraduate student at UQ (Full-time or Part-time)
    OR
  • An association or society of currently registered postgraduate students at UQ
    OR
  • A  grouping of currently registered postgraduate students at UQ

Additional requirements for the Individual Bursaries. One of the following criteria must be met.

Applicants wishing to:

  • Purchase a book/software application/item must provide evidence to support the necessity of this item for their studies
  • Register for an additional course or study aid (direct attendance or online course) must provide evidence to provide proof of enrolment and relevance of course
  • Participate in a technical conference outside Queensland must provide evidence to provide proof of attendance and lack of funding from their school
  • Fund part of their research work (e.g. gathering data or surveys) must provide evidence to support the necessity of funding and lack of funding from their school
  • Enrol (or have already enrolled) in an upcoming winter or summer course, must provide proof of enrolment
  • Participate (or have already been accepted) into an Unpaid Internship or Vacation programme with a reputable company, must provide evidence of employment.

Additional requirements for the Group Bursaries. One of the following criteria must be met for proposed events.

Applicants hosting a networking event, technical event* or cultural event for UQ postgraduate students must  –

  • Provide evidence of the event
  • Allow the use of the UQU APS banner and related items at the event
  • Allow UQU APS to advertise the event on their social media domain
  • Have at least 40 UQ Postgraduate student in attendance at the event

* The technical event may be specific to the interest of an academic discipline or school.
