Afghan Students’ Association (AfSA UQ)
“AfSA - Changing the perspective of Afghanistan, one event at a time”
The Afghan Students’ Association UQ was formed in 2015 and quickly obtained a place amongst some of the most well acknowledged clubs and societies at not only UQ but the broader community; recognized by the Council of International Students Australia (CISA) as one of the top 5 finalists for Student Association of the Year and winning the UQU Best New Club award later in 2015.
The events organised by AfSA have an emphasis on Afghan culture such as Arabic and Dari Calligraphy workshops, Afghan New Year celebration, Movie Screening Fundraisers, Poetry and Folklore Night, just to name a few. We will also include events focusing on academia and social issues, such as professional networking events, mental health and career skills workshops, the AfSA Mentoring Program (AMP), and panel discussions on social issues relevant to the Afghan community. As we are sport-loving people, AfSA won the UQ International Football Tournament and Brisbane PPIA Karakatu Futsal Cup last year; therefore we will also bring our own sporting events this year!
We aim to make your time with AfSA worthwhile and full of great experiences and memories.
The Afghan Students Association is a UQ Union affiliated club
