Taiko Drumming Team
Taiko drumming combines powerful beats produced by these “big fat drums” with dynamic whole-body movements and overflowing energy.
UQ Taiko was formed with the concept of “minna no taiko,” which in Japanese means “Taiko drumming for anyone and everyone!” For this reason, our team consists of people of all ages (from as young as 10 years old through to almost 60 years old!), nationalities (over 18 different countries), and backgrounds. Absolutely no background in Taiko, music, or Japanese culture is necessary—we welcome anyone who is interested in checking out what Taiko is all about.
In the spirit of "minna no taiko", we value the support from the community and give back through performances and workshops in Brisbane and surrounding areas. Performing and sharing the spirit of Taiko is at the heart of our club, which we do through school and community workshops, performances and supporting events. Our club session members and performance team meet weekly to rehearse and practice the art of Taiko on the St Lucia campus.
Come join us to spread the ‘taiko love’ together!
