Mechanical Engineering Student Society (MESS)

Faculty: EAIT (Engineering, Architecture and IT)

Membership Fees: $15

The Mechanical Engineering Student Society (MESS) is the largest engineering faculty club at the University of Queensland, with over 880 members in 2016 representing undergraduate engineers including those in Materials and Aerospace dual majors.

This year MESS has increased both in club size and the representation of women in engineering.

MESS exists to support our members, and we want them to have a university experience that is fun whilst putting them in the best position for their careers. To make this happen we try to keep a balance between social and professional events.

Throughout each semester we regularly invite Engineers from a range of companies to deliver talks to our members. These Industry Seminars are a great way to learn where a Mechanical Engineering Degree can take you and give our later year students opportunities to network with professionals. We also host free tutorials during exam periods to help fight exam stress and to help our members achieve their full potential!

Our social events are intended to make sure our members are having a healthy university experience, have a break from study and make friends! We host annual events that include: The MESS Ball, Laser Force, Launch Parties (one each semester) and the end of year Lake Party. On top of social events MESS also engages in Interfaculty Sports, having the most Touch Rugby League teams of any faculty last year!

Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for upcoming Industry Seminars and Social events, and as always, stay MESSy!

MESS is a UQ Union affiliated club
