Organisation of Planning Students (OOPS)

Faculty: Geography, Planning and Environmental Management
Interests: Networking, Socialising
Membership Fees: $5

Our main focus is on providing social and professional events that are informative, fun and encourage connections with other students and industry professionals alike.

Professional events include seminars and information sessions throughout the year. Our major annual event is Industry Night where we utilise the positive connections we maintain with private and public town planning related agencies, and professional associations, to provide you with valuable information on working as a planner in a variety of different roles, a range of networking opportunities and the potential to score yourself a job before you’ve even graduated.

Social Events are our forte as we believe there is great benefit in planning events where both undergraduate and postgraduate town planners can interact socially – it’s a great way to meet those in your year level and make some new friends in the years above or below. Our social events include barefoot bowls, pub-crawls, informal drinks/meet and greet sessions and our twice yearly End of Semester Extravaganza! This year we aim to have a grand ball in second semester, with a less formal end of first semester.

We also hold fundraisers, usually in the form of sausage sizzles, to enable us to heavily subsidise OOPS events for members. We therefore keep our membership affordable ($5 for the financial year) and provide member’s prices to all of our events.

We currently have over 200 members and this number is growing every year! So to be part of it, or for more information, contact us at [email protected]

OOPS is a UQ Union affiliated club
