Gender & Sexuality VP
UQU Student Executive Queer Officer
I’m Will Triste, your vice-president for gender and sexuality aka Queer Officer for 2017.
I’m in my third year of a Bachelors of Arts, doing an extended major in Peace and Conflict Studies, I’m a Scorpio, I like long walks to the refectory, and my favourite colours are fuchsia and salamander orange.
A Bit About Me
I’ve been at UQ for nigh on infinity, and in that time I’ve been actively involved in the UQU Queer Collective and UQ Pride Alliance, founded the Pokemon Fan Club, president of the Harry Potter Alliance, and a member of UQ Union’s Clubs & Societies Committee.
I’m passionate about changing the way students think about mental health and sexual health, particularly among queer students running into troubles in their first few years out of home.
What should you expect this year?
Three big campaigns and events I have planned for this year is Queer Beers, Queer Careers, and Queer Premiers. Queer Beers will be a monthly on campus casual event to bring LGBTIQ+ students and allies together for casual drinks, food, talks and a bit of relaxation. We’ll be bringing back Queer Careers working with all the UQ groups, and launching Queer Premiers movie nights screening queer films on the big screen! We’ll also be continuing great events like Queer Ball and Pride Week, refurbing the safe spaces, expanding the bursary program, and working to bring more health services to campus.
