Election / Returning Officer
Location: University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus
The UQU requires a suitably experienced and qualified professional to oversee the UQ Student Elections. The Election / Returning Officer is responsible for coordinating the electoral process for the UQU Student elections and by-elections, ensuring they are carried out in a fair and transparent manner in accordance with the Union Policy, Constitution and Regulations. This position operates with a high degree of independence and administers a comprehensive set of electoral regulations.
The position is more intensive over September and October, however will also include occasional small elections over a period of approximately 12 months. The successful candidate will coordinate with and supervise the Assistant Returning Officers and Poll Clerks to assist with the electoral process.
The successful candidate will possess:
Experience in running elections for Associations or similar.
Highly developed skills in electoral processes, counting optional preferential proportional ballots for multi member positions.
The ability to interpret and enforce electoral regulations, and make sound judgements under pressure.
Must not be a member, have been a member in the last 5 years, of a political party in Australia, or be a person who is or was, or has nominated or seconded, a candidate in the current or a previous Election.
Good communication skills (essential).
