Barista / Food and Beverage Attendants

Position: Casual (Student), Approximately 5-10 hours per week

Location: University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus

We are looking for 2 x Food and Beverage attendants who are passionate about the artistry of coffee, to join our team in the smooth operation of our outlets. These roles will work under the direction of the outlet supervisor and Head Barista to make all coffee and associated beverages to a high quality standard in a timely manner.

UQU require people who are multi-talented, amiable, considerate and willing to lend a hand in all areas of the outlet as all our teams are committed to helping each other whenever and wherever they can. Applicants must be able to work consistently to the highest of standards, and show an appreciation and in-depth understanding of quality service. 

About the role:

  • Making of all coffee and associated beverages (including supplying, dispensing or mixing of coffee, tea, cold drinks and other beverages); 
  • Taking customer orders and receipt of monies;
  • Adding value and generating sales through up selling of food items as required;
  • Detailed knowledge of Food & Beverage safety and hygiene standards;
  • Replenishing & rotating of stock;
  • Ensuring all areas remain clean and tidy (including. drinks/coffee preparation area);
  • Polishing and wrapping cutlery;
  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment (i.e. coffee machine, grinder);
  • General store cleaning in compliance with hygiene and sanitation standards.

About you:

  • Experience as a Barista and making coffee is highly desirable;
  • Previous Eftpos and cash handling skills;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards;
  • Previous experience working in a fast paced environment.

 

Salad & Sandwich Hands

Position: Casual (Non-Student), approximately 25-35 hours per week (Monday - Friday Peak time only)

Location: University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus

We are looking for professional individuals, with a 'Can-do' attitude to assist in the smooth operation of one of our outlets. The Sandwich & Salad Hand is responsible for the making of sandwiches & salads and associated products of the outlets ensuring a high quality standard of output within at timely manner ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements.

We require an individual who is multi-talented, amiable, considerate and willing to lend a hand in all areas of the outlet as all our teams are committed to helping each other whenever and wherever they can. Applicants must be able to work consistently to the highest of standards, and show an appreciation and in-depth understanding of quality service.

About the role:

  • Preparation and making of salads & sandwiches and other associated products as directed by Chefs and Outlet Supervisor/Manager while ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene standards;
  • Adhere to ingredient and portion control during food preparation in line with operating procedures;
  • Proper storage of food and ingredients ensuring minimal wastage and compliance with food safety and hygiene standards;
  • Sound knowledge of outlet menu items and ingredient usage;
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and adhere to UQU's 'SMILE' customer service philosophy;
  • Actively develop and promote respectful internal customer service, contributing to a culture of positive organisational behaviour;
  • Stay up to date with current sandwich making and presentation trends and techniques;
  • Seek regular feedback from customers on the quality of service and initiate action where improvement is required;
  • Cleaning and sanitation of food preparation area at all times to comply with hygiene and cleanliness standards;
  • Participate in stock-takes and stock handling as directed;
  • Other duties as directed by the Outlet Supervisor

About you:

  • Minimum 2 years sandwich maker and food preparation experience;
  • Excellent knife handling skills;
  • Knowledge of Food Safety & Hygiene standards including HACCP;
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills;
  • The ability to work well under pressure within a high-volume and fast-paced environment
