Functions Supervisor

Position: Permanent Full-Time

Location: University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus

We are looking for a professional and experienced Functions Supervisor to manage the efficient coordination and smooth running of events and functions at UQ Union venues. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role is responsible for communicating effectively with relevant hospitality, operations and marketing team members and external suppliers to ensure customer satisfaction and quality of all events are in accordance with UQU's customer service commitment and 'SMILE' philosophy. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to be part of something fun, exciting and challenging.

About the role:

  • Coordinate, manage and execute all event/function and catering bookings for UQ Union venues, including weddings.
  • Responding efficiently to all catering and event/function enquiries as per standard operating procedures.
  • Actively seeking new client/sales opportunities and maintaining relationships of existing clients.
  • Work with Food & Beverage team members to ensure the creation, quality and presentation of food and beverage is carried out as per clients requirements while maintaining food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Supervise employees ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures in the delivery of service within events/functions ensuring food safety and hygiene standards are maintained.
  • Identify trends and develop menu’s and design/décor and implement ideas to drive sales.
  • Maintain relationships with key clients on campus and external suppliers.
  • Provide mentoring and training to Catering employees, including induction of new team members.
  • Develop & record all catering and event standard operating procedures in conjunction with the Operations Manager.
  • Monitor stock levels and order appropriately per event/function, ensuring minimum stock holdings and reporting levels to the Inventory and Procurement Coordinator
  • Administration and other ad hoc duties as required.
  • Some nights and weekend work will be required

About you:

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in catering functions and Events Management and/or relevant qualification in hospitality.
  • Proven history of activities that achieve individual, team and business objectives and customer satisfaction.
  • RSA Certificate essential and RMLV Certificate is advantageous.
  • Previous experience in sales and business development.
  • Proven track records of developing and coordinating functions.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS and food safety legislative standards.
  • Experience with menu design is highly desirable.

Cook – Red Room

Position: Casual

Location:, St Lucia Campus

We are looking for a cook to use our grill and fryer and who has a professional attitude, and a vibrant personality to assist in the smooth operation of our Red Room Bar & Grill. We require someone who is multi-talented, amiable, considerate and willing to lend a hand in all areas of the outlet as all our teams are committed to helping each other whenever and wherever they can. Applicants must be able to work consistently to the highest of standards, and show an appreciation and in-depth understanding for quality service. 

Skills and Experience:

  • Customer service skills essential
  • Experience in a fast-paced high volume environment essential
  • Experience on fry, grill and production essential
  • Well-developed time management skills
  • A sound knowledge of food handling
  • Good knife skills

About you:

  • Qualifications in Commercial Cookery
  • Must hold a safety certificate and food servers certificate
  • At least 2-3 years’ experience as a Cook working in a fast past kitchen environment and high quality food preparation

IT Support

Position: Permanent Full Time

We are looking for an experienced IT Support person to join our Finance /IT team. This role is responsible for maintaining the IT systems with troubleshooting, end-user training, and coordinating a range of IT issues for UQU’s employees, Student Officers and our business operations at St Lucia. What you will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and maintaining an organised, stable and secure operating environment for all assigned IT Systems in the organisation.
  • Undertaking scheduled performance maintenance activities of disaster recovery, data backup/restore, design and test for critical systems, and maintaining systems documentation.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving all IT issues via helpdesk ticketing system.
  • Ensuring H&L POS Systems are maintained and updated as required to meet Outlet business needs.
  • Creating SQL scripts to facilitate information extraction.
  • Solving technical problems using technical, analytical and problems solving skills.
  • Providing 2nd level support to end users regarding troubleshooting, diagnosing connectivity, point of sale maintenance, software licensing and upgrades.

About you:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with IT helpdesk systems, desktop and general, support.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven technical experience in supporting a broad range of IT products including Windows OS and layered products including Windows and Ubuntu/CentOS Server, SQL Server, information access and security. Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, firewall experience is also desirable.
  • Sound knowledge of HyperV or virtual environment, web servers (apache, IIS) and networking.
  • Sound database administration skills with demonstrated ability to script SQL queries.
  • Be focused and driven by excellent customer service.
  • A strong communicator with the ability to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Passionate about what you do, have a positive attitude; self-motivated and take pride in your work.

Executive Chef

Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role is responsible for supporting the Food Outlet Supervisors and Chefs in leading change, managing all food preparation, and menu engineering in order to exceed customer expectations. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to be part of something fun, exciting and challenging.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the successful operation of UQU food outlets.
  • Developing innovative food offerings to match contemporary trends.
  • Maintaining exceptional customer service across all outlets. 
  • Working with Food Outlet Supervisors and Chefs to plan and prepare menus and recipes to maximise outlet productivity and food quality
  • Mentoring and training kitchen team members.
  • Ensuring a compliant food safety system, and all hygiene practices are implemented and adhered to.

About you:

  • Qualifications in Commercial Cookery
  • At least 3-4 years’ experience working in a fast past kitchen environment and high quality food preparation on a large scale.
  • Food preparation, cooking and menu development skills to be able to make major operational changes to food menus, food preparation and procurement.
  • A strong understanding of contemporary food trends and efficient ways of preparing authentic food options that appeal to a diverse customer base.
  • Ability to effectively handle customer feedback in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to manage budgets and ensure food outlets operate profitably.
  • Computer literacy including required software packages.
  • Strong leaderships skills with the ability to effectively lead a team.
  • Highly-skilled, hands-on and self-motivated.
