Cooking in the Microwave - Mac & Cheese
It's getting a little bit more chilly and that's why you need a warm and comforting mug full of cheesy goodness.
Store-bought mac and cheese makes a perfectly warm and satisfying meal for these colder months, especially considering how little time and money it takes to make (meaning more time to procrastinate on exam prep, right?). That being said, the mysterious cheese powder has a questionable taste and doesn’t 100% satisfy those cheese cravings. That’s why we’re bringing you a mac and cheese, with the convenience of Easy Mac but with the magic of fresh cheese. It’s a solid, healthier substitute for your favorite processed mac ‘n’ cheese and we’re even giving you a second recipe if you want to lessen the carb load!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of pasta
- 1/2 cup of water
- 25g of shredded cheese
Method:
Add 1/2 cup of pasta and 1/2 cup of water to the mug place the mug on a plate or bowl to catch any overflowing water and microwave for 1 minute
Use a fork to loosen any pasta that may have stuck together and microwave for another minute
Stir again and now microwave the pasta in 30-second intervals until all the water has evaporated, making sure to stir in between intervals
Immediately add 25g of cheese and stir through the pasta, until fully melted
If you are feeling really fancy with your microwave cooking skills add some herbs or veggies like red peppers or chopped broccoli!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup cauliflower
- 25g of shredded cheese
- 1/8 of an avocado (optional)
Method:
Add 1 cup of cauliflower to your mug
Microwave for 3 minutes
Once removed from the microwave, immediately add 25g of shredded cheese
Stir together and let sit for a few seconds and the cheese will melt into the cauliflower
For extra creaminess, mix in 1/8 of an avocado
