Statement 15 April 2020

The University of Queensland Union is the peak representative body for students at UQ. Our mission has remained unchanged since 1911: to support and advocate for students throughout the challenges of University, whatever they may be.

As such, we hold ourselves to high professional and ethical standards, and we know the student body does too. We understand that events of recent days have been controversial and divisive for many in our community.

However, it is not and never has been the policy of the Union to publicly comment or interfere with ongoing disciplinary proceedings against any individual student, which are highly confidential. To do so would jeopardise our commitment to the integrity of the University process and representing students without fear or favour. We also wish to reaffirm the principles of the UQ Student Charter, namely those of Privacy and Respect.

Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Union continues to offer free, confidential and professional support for students undergoing disciplinary or academic proceedings. We encourage these students to access support through the Student Advocacy and Support service, available at
