During semester times, our club holds one session of Chinese ink painting and Chinese calligraphy each week beginning Week 2. For our classes, we have had the pleasure to invite a Master to come in and teach each of these ancient art forms. Each of our classes runs in slightly different manner, but ultimately each session is a chance for you to try a new style or bring more finesse into your artwork.
Every Chinese ink painting lesson, all the painting necessities will be provided by the club for you to settle down and enjoy. Our painting teacher will guide you through everything from dipping your brush to setting out the paper and more. For each class, the painting teacher will demonstrate how to draw each and every detail and produce exemplars for you to refer upon. At the end of each lesson, we encourage you to produce a final piece for you to take home. Pieces such as bamboo, lotus, goldfish and plum blossoms are some of the many different artworks created by students in the past.
For Chinese calligraphy, a similar set up is laid out for you to come in and create. Calligraphy practice paper and calligraphy samples are brought into class and used as a template for you to design your own nuanced depictions of all kinds of Chinese characters. From the basic strokes of calligraphy to how to create written scrolls and anything in between, our teacher can point out every little detail to make your pieces of art ever-greater.
For times and locations, please follow our Facebook page UQ Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Club for more details and updates. Sign ups for our club can be done in any one of our classes, or alternatively you can find us at UQ Market Day.
