UQ Fintech

Established in late 2020, UQ Fintech aims to actively facilitate the professional development of the University of Queensland's keen problem-solving students into the next generation of industry problem solvers.

UQ Fintech is one of the University of Queensland’s fastest-growing clubs. With hundreds of members in our first year, UQ Fintech was recognised as the Science Club of the Year in 2021. Members of UQ Fintech are primarily undergraduate students studying Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, and Finance.

The goal of the society is to develop keen problem-solving students into the next generation of industry problem solvers. To achieve this goal, UQ Fintech delivers a wide range of industry-focused events to both allow our members to refine their skills and to connect with current industry leaders.

UQ Fintech provides fortnightly Industry Poker Nights with firms such as Optiver, Swyftx, Susquehanna International Group, Monochrome Asset Management, Akuna Capital, and many more. Each table winner will receive a $50 EFTPOS card to spend as they please. At the end of each semester, UQ Fintech hosts a tournament with a larger cash prize.

Problem Solving and Pizza is UQ Fintech’s flagship networking evening. With over 20 industry-leading firms attending. Members will get the opportunity to compete alongside industry representatives against each other to solve mind-bending problems.

Throughout each semester UQ Fintech will also host a multitude of academic workshops with industry speakers. This is a fantastic opportunity to further your skills while also networking with industry.

UQ Fintech also holds a wide range of social events including trivia, pub crawls, clubs exchange, and many other social university events.

Is UQ Fintech a BEL or a Science club?

UQ Fintech is a very diverse team, with our members coming from a wide range of disciplines. We are however a faculty of science club with a strong focus on mathematics and computer science. We also work closely with the school of mathematics and physics to deliver many of our events.
