UQ Irish Society

UQ Irish Society is a group of passionate students at UQ. We’re a social club that celebrates aspects of Irish culture and participate in a number of key events throughout the year, including the International Atlas Ball and the Annual UQ European Pub Crawl! We are best known for the St Patrick’s day celebrations here on campus, turning the RedRoom green for one night of the year! Throughout the year we also hold general social events, building a sense of community on campus and having some craic along the way! It’s just $2 to become a member and you don’t have to be Irish to join!

The UQ Irish Society is open to everyone who want’s to experience the best of Irish culture amongst good friends here at UQ. We are best known for St Patrick’s Day celebrations here on campus with The Red Room and volunteering with the Official Brisbane City Parade. Beyond this, we also get involved with pub crawls with other international and faculty clubs, organise deals with popular Irish venues in Brisbane, participate in interfaculty sporting competitions and this year, trying to get Gaelic sports on the agenda. We’re also hosting events to teach people about the history of Ireland and to connect students with business and government leaders with connections to Ireland – Google, Facebook, Apple and Amazon have their European headquarters in Dublin meaning Ireland is quickly becoming the place to be for people looking for a high-flying career overseas.
