FAQs

Is linguistics basically just people who love speaking more than one language?

Not quite! Linguistics covers a breadth of topics, focussing on the science of language. How sounds form into words; words into sentences; sentences into phrases, and how each structure can appear different due to geographical, ethnic, religious, or otherwise impactful circumstances – linguistics is underestimated, and you can unlock incredible opportunities and so many different ways! ‘Linguist’ is not the only profession under which language-oriented people work. Think ESL teacher, speech pathologist, language preservationist, AUSLAN interpreter, political advisor, community worker, librarian, anthropologist, and so many more.
