UQ Naatak is a society based at the University of Queensland primarily focused on producing and developing quality Indian theatre and film productions as well as showcasing all of India's regional and creative diversity through regular film screenings.
Naatak, meaning performance in Sanskrit as well as many languages in India, means to perform and/or act. As such, UQ Naatak’s core objectives are centered around our three aims as we host productions and screenings.
1. To promote diverse cultures, languages and traditions of India through film and theatre productions to the wider university community.
2. To foster cross-cultural exchange and understanding between Indians and non-Indians by showing Indian theatre and cinema in all linguistic and regional diversity.
3. To provide a platform for Indian and non-Indian students to showcase their talents in acting, directing, writing, producing and other aspects of theatre and film.
