University of Queensland Backyard Sports Association (UQBSA)

UQBSA is a club created for people that enjoy participating in a social sports environment. We host weekly events and our events are open to anyone willing to participate.

Initially founded in late 2018, by a group of students fueled by a passion to play sport without the heavy commitments or costs associated, UQBSA was initially started up as UQBCA (Backyard Cricket Society). After a semester, the club expanded to 40 members. By early Semester 2 2019, UQBCA was re branded as UQBSA (Backyard Sports Association). This change introduced 3 additional sports (Soccer, Basketball & Touch) and increased the weekly event frequency to two days(Thursday & Friday). Today we are a student lead organisation that boasts more than 80 members. Lead by an passionate executive team of 13 members. Our aim is to engage all people to undertake sport and maintain a healthy lifestyle of study and exercise. We have come so far in such a short time and we have countless events planned for the near future!

Is our club open to everyone?

Absolutely! We are open to anyone inside or outside of UQ.

Do I have to be good at a sport to participate?

No, the great thing about UQBSA is we welcome all skill levels. It doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner or semi-professional we are more focused on having a fun social experience.

What sports do you play?

Currently we play basketball, soccer, touch footy and cricket. Although we are always looking to expand into other sports depending on member interest.
