Women in Science Association (WiSA)

The Women in Science Association (WiSA) is a student-led organisation with the aim to foster a community for young women in STEM, within and beyond the academic community. WiSA creates a space where the achievements of women of all career stages in science are encouraged and celebrated– providing them with opportunities for career advancement and enabling them to serve as role models for young girls in science.

Founded in 2016, WiSA has been growing steadily in both membership and in the scale and number of events held. We expect to grow further as we aim to open up more channels of communication both within and outside the university, thus increasing our reach.

WiSA has run and participated in a wide range of events throughout the years such as casual pizza nights for our members to get to know each other, industry networking nights, large balls, pub crawls, and science-based workshops for school children. We hope to continue organising these events in the coming years as they have been very well received in the past, as well as expanding on our outreach work.
