The UQU Queer Collective (UQU QC) is a community group at the University of Queensland for members of the UQ LGBTQIA+ Community. All events are free to all students and voluntarily organised by members of the collective. We facilitate social, charitable and political events. All members of the UQ community who identify as queer and/or LGBTQIA+ are automatic members of the Queer Collective. Allies are welcome at our public events. The UQU queer community under its many names has seen the decriminalisation of homosexuality, the introduction of the Anti-Discrimination Act, the Marriage Equality acts, the hosting of numerous national conference, and hundreds of events. Today, we the UQU Queer Collective are proud to offer regular events, advocacy campaigns, mutual aid, a community, friendship and support.
The dedicated community hub is known as the Carden Queer Room and Is used by LGBTQIA+ students only, allies are welcome as guests. The room is used as a study space, social space, a place to wear gender affirming wear and a place to hide away. Carden has a kitchenette and an extensive tea collection, so come on by and chill out.
